Campus Compass turns a graded C++ algorithms assignment into an interactive web app for campus navigation, combining a custom graph engine with real routing data and live map visualization.
what I did
- 01AI implemented a weighted graph engine in C++ (adjacency list, Dijkstra's shortest path, BFS connectivity check, Kruskal's MST with union-find) to model campus navigation, student schedules, and road closures, validated by 57 Catch2 unit test assertions.
- 02AI designed and built a schedule-optimization feature using backtracking search over combinatorial course-section assignments, minimizing total walking time via cached Dijkstra runs while pruning time-conflicting schedules.
- 03AI built a REST API in C++ (cpp-httplib) exposing 15+ endpoints and a vanilla JS/Leaflet frontend, turning a console-only assignment into an interactive web app with live map visualization and real walking-route rendering via the OSRM routing API.
- 04AI sourced and geocoded 260+ real building locations from the OpenStreetMap Overpass API, then engineered a synthetic k-nearest-neighbor graph, weighted by real-world geographic distance, to support realistic pathfinding at scale.
- 05AI extended a graded academic assignment with a full-stack feature layer while keeping the original algorithm implementation and test suite completely intact, deliberately isolating new synthetic data and code paths from the graded core to avoid regressions.
